Facing Loss: An Islamic Guide to Soothing the Heart
Losing a loved one is a difficult test that every human being must go through. In facing these difficult times, Islam teaches us to be patient and accept fate with a contented heart. Allah SWT says:
" Indeed with difficulty there is ease."
(Surah Al-Inshirah: 6)
This verse reminds us that every difficulty is accompanied by ease, giving hope to the grieving heart.
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also said:
" There is no Muslim who is afflicted with misfortune, then he says 'Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un.' Allahumma ajirni fi musibati wa akhlif li khairan minha,' but Allah will replace it with something better than it"
(Narrated by Muslim, no. 918)
Practice this prayer as a source of strength and comfort. In addition, dhikr, prayer, and reading the Quran can help calm a troubled soul.
Loss reminds us that this world is a temporary place. It helps us focus on preparing for the afterlife. Sending prayers and doing good deeds for those who have passed on is a sign of eternal love.
By being patient, trusting, and asking for Allah's mercy, the heart will become more steadfast in facing this test. Allah SWT always makes things easy for His servants who are patient.
